How to Plan an Intentional Wellness Weekend in Jacksonville, Florida

When we think about a weekend away, it’s easy to fill every available hour.

Brunch. Reservations. Shopping. Activities. Somewhere else we need to be.

But what if you planned a weekend around a different question:

How do I want to feel when the weekend is over?

Jacksonville offers an interesting mix of wel

lness experiences, beautiful natural spaces, coastline, nourishing food and opportunities to intentionally slow down.

Plan your Intentional Wellness Weekend

Whether you’re planning a staycation, spending a weekend with friends, visiting Jacksonville or simply looking for a different way to spend your days off, here are a few ideas for creating your own intentional wellness weekend.

And no—you don’t need to do all of them.

FLOAT | Begin With Less Stimulation

Float therapy offers an opportunity to step away from some of the sensory input we experience

throughout an ordinary day.

Jacksonville has options including Be Still Wellness & Aesthetics and True REST Float Spa, where you can experience floating in a private environment.

Afterward, resist the temptation to immediately rush to your next activity.

Have lunch. Sit outside. Read a few chapters of a book. Notice how you feel.

The space between experiences can be part of the experience, too.

WARM | Experience an Infrared Sauna

Sometimes slowing down can look like doing very little at all.

An infrared sauna session offers a warm, quiet environment where you can step away from the pace of the day and simply settle in.

Degree Wellness in Jacksonville Beach offers infrared sauna sessions, making it an easy addition to a wellness weekend—whether you choose it as a standalone experience or pair it with something else.

For me, this is also where the idea of an intentional wellness weekend becomes personal.

Some people find their pause through movement. Others through sound, floating, nature or heat.

Part of the experience is discovering what feels restorative to you.

LISTEN | Explore Sound in Different Settings

One of the things I appreciate about Jacksonville’s wellness community is that there isn’t just one way—or one setting—to experience a sound bath.

Sound can be experienced in an intimate indoor setting, beside the ocean, within a salt cave or through community programming.

During a sound bath, crystal singing bowls, chimes, rainstick, gong and other instruments create an immersive listening environment. Rather than trying to force your mind to become quiet, sound can offer an anchor for your attention—something to notice and return to as thoughts naturally

come and go.

Experience Lavender Dreams

A local Serenity Sounds favorite, Lavender Dreams brings together sound and sensory details.

Aurora borealis lighting, crystal singing bowls illuminated in pinks and purples, doTERRA Lavender aromatherapy and lavender-scented weighted eye masks accompany an immersive sound bath.

It’s an invitation to step away from the stimulation of the day and make room to relax, rest and restore.

Try a Tandem Sound Bath in Atlantic Beach

For a different approach to sound, Tandem is offered in an intimate group setting at The SOMA Collective in Atlantic Beach.

Tandem combines two sound modalities within the same experience.

Diana Vasquez of SoundBath Jax facilitates the group sound bath using crystal singing bowls and complementary instruments while I provide individual Vibrational Sound Therapy using Zen Therapeutic singing bowls.

Sound around you. Gentle vibration. The grounding, melodic hum of Zen Therapeutic singing bowls.

Catch a Full Moon Oceanside Sound Bath

Then there is an experience that feels particularly Jacksonville: listening beside the Atlantic Ocean.

SoundBath Jax offers a community sound bath oceanside around the full moon during select months, weather permitting.

The waves become part of the environment as you settle into the sand and experience sound outdoors.

It’s also a reminder that the environment surrounding a sound bath can completely change how we experience listening.

Look for a Community Sound Bath

Sound baths are also making their way into Jacksonville’s public community spaces.

The City of Jacksonville Parks, Recreation and Community Servicesoffers community programming that can include sound bath experiences at select locations and times.

Community offerings can be an approachable way to explore sound—especially if you’ve been curious but haven’t attended a sound bath before.

Check the individual program details before attending so you know whether the experience is seated or lying down and what you may want to bring for comfort.

Wellness can be explored in many ways—and at many different price points.

EXPLORE | Let Nature Be the Activity

Not every wellness experience needs an appointment.

Sometimes it’s simply walking somewhere beautiful without worrying about your pace, your step count or where you need to be next.

Jacksonville Arboretum & Botanical Gardens offers trails through different Northeast Florida habitats, along with plenty of opportunities to stop, sit and notice what’s around you.

Or venture farther toward the coast to Big Talbot Island State Park.

Its maritime forests, wetlands and distinctive shoreline offer a completely different environment. Boneyard Beach, with its weathered trees along the shore, is particularly memorable.

Bring water. Wear comfortable shoes.

And give yourself permission to stop and look around.

BREATHE | Spend Some Time in a Salt Cave

Another distinctly different wellness environment can be found at Earth Salt Stone in San Marco.

Earth Salt Stone offers salt cave sessions throughout the day, providing an opportunity to experience the cave environment and halotherapy on its own.

You can also check the calendar for specialty wellness experiences held within the cave.

Experience Waves of Calm

For a combination of salt therapy and sound, look for Waves of Calm, a Serenity Sounds Salt Cave Sound Bath offered on select Friday evenings.

Waves of Calm is a Zero Gravity Chair experience, allowing you to recline while crystal singing bowls, chimes, rainstick and other instruments create an immersive sound experience within the salt cave.

The reclined position offers a different way to experience a sound bath, particularly for someone who may not prefer lying on a yoga mat.

It can also be a beautiful way to decompress at the end of the week—settling into the ambiance of the salt cave while sound gives your attention somewhere to land.

Halotherapy. Sound. A little time to decompress from the week.

NOURISH | Make the Meal Part of the Weekend

An intentional wellness weekend isn’t only about what you do.

It’s also about giving yourself time to enjoy a meal.

And wellness doesn’t require eating “perfectly.”

Jacksonville has a variety of restaurants that make it easier to find fresh ingredients and options for different dietary preferences.

Kairos Jax is a casual option for açaí bowls, smoothies, salads, wraps, tacos and bowls. It works well for a lighter breakfast or lunch between activities.

Heading toward Ponte Vedra or the Beaches? McFlamingo offers a casual health-conscious option when you want something fresh without turning lunch into another major event.

At St. Johns Town Center, True Food Kitchen offers a more leisurely option centered around seasonal ingredients and a variety of dietary preferences. This might be the place to linger over a meal rather than watching the clock.

For something that feels a little more like a getaway, Coastal Kitchen + Bar at Hilton Jacksonville at Mayo Clinic offers another setting to slow down and enjoy the experience of dining.

And sometimes wellness needs to be practical.

Clean Eatz offers bowls, wraps, smoothies and grab-and-go options for the day when you want something straightforward between activities.

Nourishment can be part of the experience without becoming another set of rules.

LEAVE SPACE | Don’t Turn Wellness Into Another Checklist

Perhaps this is the most important part.

You do not need to float, sit in an infrared sauna, hike, attend a sound bath, visit a salt cave and eat at three restaurants in 48 hours. That’s just another packed weekend.

Choose one or two things that sound good to you.

Maybe Saturday begins with a float, followed by lunch and an afternoon with absolutely nothing scheduled.

Maybe Sunday starts with a walk at the Arboretum and ends with a sound bath.

Maybe you meet a friend for brunch and spend the rest of the afternoon reading at the beach.

Or perhaps you choose one experience you’ve never tried before and let that become the first chapter of your day.

Instead of asking:

What can I fit into the weekend?

Try asking:

How would I like to feel when the weekend is over?

Rested? Connected? Curious? Nourished? A little more like yourself?

Maybe you need movement.

Maybe you need stillness.

Maybe you need nature, a good meal, an early bedtime and nowhere to be the next morning.

There are many ways to explore wellness throughout Jacksonville.

The intention isn’t to experience all of them.

Choose what speaks to you. Enjoy where you are. And leave a little room for whatever comes next.

Experiences, schedules, hours and offerings can change. Check directly with each provider, venue or organization when planning your weekend, particularly for community programs, sound baths and outdoor experiences offered on select dates or dependent on weather.
