Navigating Autoimmune Wellness with Sound Therapy: A Personal Journey

Hi, I’m Adriana Dobbs, the owner of Serenity Sounds. Over 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, which started my autoimmune wellness journey. Little did I know, this diagnosis would change the course of my life and lead me to discover the importance of self-care, stress management, and holistic practices.

My Journey with Autoimmune Disease

My Sound Therapy Journey - Before & Now

Living with autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s, Raynaud’s Syndrome, and most recently, Sjogren’s Syndrome has taught me valuable lessons about my body. I’ve had to become hyper-aware of what I put into it, how I care for it, and the crucial role stress plays in my health. It’s a constant balancing act to feel better, sleep well, stay warm, and manage stress—and food plays a significant role in this equation. Over time, I’ve learned to navigate sensitivities to gluten and dairy, which further complicate my condition but are part of the journey toward finding balance.

The Importance of Stress Management

One of the most critical lessons I've learned is the importance of managing my stress response. Stress and anxiety can deplete my energy, leading to a feeling of total exhaustion, or worse, triggering an autoimmune flare. Without proper care, I’ve learned that I can’t run on empty. Managing stress isn’t just a luxury—it's a necessity.

Finding Resilience Through Sound Therapy

One of the most transformative tools I’ve found in my wellness journey is sound therapy, specifically sound baths. Sound waves are incredibly powerful—they travel five times faster through water than air. Since our bodies are made up of more than 60% water, these sound waves reach us on a cellular level, activating the parasympathetic nervous system. This state is responsible for helping us rest, repair, and restore balance.

During a sound bath, our brainwaves begin to entrain to the frequency of the sound waves around us. This shift from a focused, active brainwave state to a more relaxed, meditative one helps us move away from the constant “fight-or-flight” response, which can be so prevalent in our daily lives. Over time, regular sound baths have helped me build new neural pathways, boosting neuroplasticity and reconditioning my body to remember how to be calm and restored rather than than have my fight-flight response on overdrive.

Sound Therapy: A Powerful Tool for Autoimmune Warriors

Sound baths aren’t just a way to relax; they’re a therapeutic practice that supports my nervous system and allows my body to focus on restoration. For anyone managing chronic illness or stress, this type of therapy is a profound way to bring the body into a state of deep relaxation, where it can begin the rebalancing process. For autoimmune warriors, caregivers, and those struggling with stress, sound therapy offers a unique opportunity to nourish the body and mind.

What Sound Therapy Has Done for Me

Personally, sound therapy has been life-changing. It has allowed me to reconnect with my body in a way I didn’t think was possible. I no longer feel depleted after managing my autoimmune conditions day in and day out. Instead, I feel rejuvenated, my body more balanced, and my mind more centered. It’s a practice that has supported my wellness journey in ways I never anticipated.
